iNet 1.6 is out

1.6 is mainly a bug fix release. This update brings the following changes:

[Added] Redesign of About page
[Added] New Icon for settings
[Fixed] Bug that prevented portscan presets from working correctly
[Fixed] Bug that could cause a crash during portscan
[Fixed] Bug that could cause a crash after viewing a host as http or opening the help menu.

Thanks to all who have send in crashreports. We applied for a fast review at Apple and it worked like a charm. Took only three days for the update to get reviewed. From a developer perspective the review process is improving a lot recently.

We just submitted the next update for iNet. iNet 1.5 brings the following changes:

Added] When the host model is detected, the correct icon gets shown
[Added] Ping is now more customizable. You can seethe number of pings, continuous pings and timeout.
[Added] Scans exported via mail are now HTML formatted
[Added] When a VPN connection is active, scanning defaults to the VPN network range.
[Added] Updated Apple model database to include newest Mac models
[Added] Tap on a port after portscan now opens either http:// for port 80 and 8080 or https:// for port 443
[Added] Wake on LAN over VPN is now possible
[Added] When doing a broadcast ping, you can choose if you want to ping via the VPN Interface or the WiFi Interface

[Changed] Recently pinged addresses are now under the Favorites view

Today the enhanced iNet - Networkscanner 1.4 is available at the AppStore. With its new name iNet Pro it is clearly stated that this release gives you the full power of the new iNet. We invite all our customers to update at no cost. A lite version of iNet will be released within the next weeks at a very low price. Customers of iNet Lite can upgrade to Pro for a reduced price.

A word on iNet development

iNet is in the AppStore for seven months already. In total we are working on iNet for almost ten months now.

Since our initially release iNet has evolved quite a lot. This follows our philosophy that iPhone apps deserve the same kind of support, ongoing development and update strategy that is common for desktop applications. We think that iPhone apps are not bound to be limited 99ç “spinoffs” of desktop apps. We want to evolve iNet towards a tool that directly competes with desktop solutions for network scanning. The inherent design paradigms of the iPhoneOS actually help to really focus on what kind of information and user interaction is needed at a given time.

The next update for iNet will bring us much closer to our goals. Here is a quick overview of iNet develoment:

iNet 1.4 Beta started

iNet 1.3 is out

Our latest update of iNet has passed the Apple review process. It focuses on saving and loading scans, copy & paste support as well as some UI improvement. As always, iNet 1.4 is already in the making. In our next update we focus on a more configurable network scan as well as improved support for larger networks.

Today we submitted our next update for iNet to Apple for review. It focuses on saving and loading scans. This was the most requested feature by our users. Initially we wanted to include our new scan engine, that improves scan results in large networks but now decided against that. We will still need some time to improve reliability on a few issues here. Stay tuned…

In general the current iPhone software ecosystem has developed a habit of making personal information of users available to developers. Mostly for analytical reasons of course. We understand the temptation for app publishers to be able to track user habits in such detail. Statistics about location, time and frequency of use , popularity of certain functions in an app are easily accessible via a ton of analytics sites in the internet. All the developer has to do is to integrate a site specific framework or write one of their own.

In 95 percent of the cases the user is not asked if he is actually willing to provide this information. System enforced access control to the geo loacation is often the only indicator that information is transmitted from the device. The lack of tools like LittleSnitch leaves iPhoneOS users with no means to defend themselves against data harvesting. We admit that Ad financed apps are depending on this information, but the user should be made aware of it.

We think this is wrong. None of our apps are transmitting information to us. They never did and they never will. We depend on our users telling us what they want form our apps via email or twitter,

While we are waiting for Apple to approve our 1.2 update, we have already started to develop the next update. iNet 1.3 will focus on saving scans, as this is currently the most requested feature from our users.

We just wanted to show you the new icons in the upcoming iNet 1.2 update. The update brings a cleaner interface for iNet’s network scan (as well as tons of other improvements).

We finally made it to send the next release of iNet to the App Store Review Team. Thanks to all our beta testers. The next update is already in development; there we focus on stored scans and will include some of the ideas our users sent to us.

iNet 1.2 released to beta tester

Today we delivered iNet 1.2 for beta testing to our beta testing community. With a lot of enhancements, better scan engine and a sophisticated port scan feature this update brings an even better user experience and makes this network scan tool definitely to the best one currently available for iPhone and iPod touch.
We expect to end the test phase within 14 days. If there will be no complaints by the App Store Review team (hopefully) iNet 1.2 will be available at the iTunes Store within 3 weeks. We plan to raise the price to 4.99$ shortly after releasing, but as always updates from the current version will be at no cost.
